Process – Objectives – Findings
Varieties:
Mytero (Spicy Pickled Type)
OS139 (Sweet Pickled Type)
Stavros (Hot Pickled Type)
Ierapetra (Long Hot Type)
P13 (Long Sweet Type)
Florinis (Thick-Fleshed Sweet Type)
Introduction
The Cultivation Inspection 2025 was conducted within the framework of the OIKOS SEEDS seed production program, aiming to ensure varietal purity, healthy plant growth, and stability of the key characteristics of varieties cultivated for certified seed production.
The process was implemented according to the company’s established protocols and under the supervision of the inspection authority, in close cooperation with the contracted growers. The cultivation inspection represents a critical stage in the production of Certified Greek Traditional Varieties, confirming that the fields meet all required technical and quality standards defined by the national certification system.
Its successful completion requires close coordination between the inspection authority, the seed-producing company, and the growers, through on-site visits and systematic field evaluations.
During the inspection, targeted assessments focused on the following aspects:
🔹 Field Purity Control
It was confirmed that the fields were free from infestations and diseases, ensuring healthy plant development and reducing the need for chemical interventions. Proper field management forms the foundation for high-quality production and consistency of the final product.
🔹 Varietal Purity Control
Uniformity and typicality of plants were evaluated, confirming that each variety maintained its genetic and phenotypic integrity without contamination or deviations.
🔹 Importance and Benefits of the Inspection
Continuous monitoring of the cultivation enables early detection of deviations and preventive corrective actions, ensuring crop sustainability and production reliability.
This process represents a cornerstone for seed quality, stability, and certification, contributing to the preservation and promotion of Greek agricultural biodiversity.
Field Findings
The cultivation period progressed smoothly, without any deviations from the expected standards.
Summary:
• Plants exhibited vigorous and uniform growth.
• Fruit set was consistent and typical for each variety.
• No infections or physiological disorders were observed.
• Yields remained stable and fully aligned with varietal standards.
By Variety
Mytero (Spicy Pickled Type): Good fruit set and firm flesh texture. Flavor spicy-hot, as expected.
OS139 (Sweet Pickled Type): Uniform fruits with bright color and stable texture. Excellent field performance and sweet flavor within specifications.
Stavros (Hot Pickled Type): Maintained its strong pungency, with consistent fruit set and high tolerance to stress conditions. Excellent overall field performance.
Ierapetra (Long Hot Type): Very vigorous variety, with heavy fruiting and full retention of hotness characteristics. No deviations observed.
P13 (Long Sweet Type): Excellent uniformity in fruit length and color. Stable plant growth without stress symptoms.
Florinis (Thick-Fleshed Sweet Type): High yield potential, uniform fruits with thick, crisp flesh and intense sweetness. Bright red color typical of the variety.
Conclusion
The Cultivation Inspection 2025 was successfully completed without remarks or deviations. All varieties demonstrated genetic purity, stable performance, and adaptability to the climatic conditions of the year.
OIKOS SEEDS, as the seed-producing company, continues to implement a methodical and reliable seed production system, supporting the development and preservation of Certified Greek Traditional Varieties.
